School News

February was a very busy and fun month for kindergarten. They celebrated Groundhog Day, 100th Day, and Valentine's Day. We also learned about weather and seasons. We are learning the words "is" and "here" and the letters l, k, q, and i. In math we are working on numbers 11-20, counting by 10's, and recognizing and counting dimes.

Second grade would like to encourage parents to keep helping their child read 20 minutes and doing their math homework. Also to help your child get their homework into their backpacks.
In my class we have had a fun unit on dental health. We have been learning the correct way to brush their teeth. We made a mouth with an apple slice and stuck on marshmallows. Then they had to show the correct way to brush those teeth. After that they got to eat their “mouth”.

4th graders will still need to work hard on multiplication facts. Idaho History projects are due in May. We need to be starting on our project soon!!!

Go to "my profile" and select "change school". Enter the zip code and select South Fork Elementary-Rigby. This will ensure that you are signed up under the correct school.

February 2010 Newsletter

First Grade News:
We have had a great month of reading in 1st Grade. We are in Theme 6, "Animal Adventures". We are learning our long vowels and more sight words. We are also encouraging more AR Reading and testing on Renaissance. Children can test on home computers as well as school computers. As children read books and test, they earn points that can be traded in for prizes. In Math, we are drilling Math Facts and learning "doubles plus one" facts. We are looking forward to our "100 Days" parties next week and also celebrating Valentine's Day and President's Day. We want to keep encouraging the children to read at home. We are working on reading accuracy and fluency. Thanks for all you do by helping your children with their homework and other assignments.

Math Science Night
Feb. 10th 5:30pm – 7:30 pm.
Science Fair projects will be in the South Fork Elementary Gym for all to see. Math games will be throughout the school for all to play and get to know some games that they can play at home to learn even more. PTO will have food for sale in the cafeteria so parents don’t even have to worry about fixing dinner. It will be a great event that no one should miss.
To know more about what your child needs: they brought home two flyers that give more descriptions on projects and what is required. A rubric was included so that all students will know what they need to have in their project to get the best score by the judges.
Good luck to all and see you there!

Science Fair Food
$1.50 a slice or $10.00 for whole pizza, drinks are $.50 a piece,
